Noord-Portugal – Mimosa hiking
Are you looking for peace and quiet? A place where there is no mass tourism yet and you also want an active holiday then you can go to Mimosa Wandelingen. In the authentic village of Covelo de Cima in Vieira do Minho you will stay in one of the oldest houses of the village, Casa do Salgueiro from 1616. After modernization, the house has retained its special appearance of the 16th century. This combined with the panoramic views from the various terraces over the mountains you can completely dream away. This beautiful environment together with kindness of the people invites you to enjoy the simple elements of life.
At Mimosa walks most of the tours start from Casa do Salgueiro itself and can be adjusted on a daily basis according to interests and wishes. The walks are varied and lead you along immense boulders, old villages, waterfalls, rivers and beautiful views over the meadows and mountains. In the Minho region peace is the language of communication, you experience the silence. Something that is almost unique today. The distances of the different routes are between 10 and 15 km. These are excellent for an average hiker. There is a lot of height difference in the area and you walk on both unpaved and paved paths.
Only accommodation during the hikings
Mimosa walks offers walks in a small-scale character with a maximum of 4 guests. Guests stay on full board basis. Each guest has their own room and they share the bathroom. In the morning a breakfast buffet is prepared and you can prepare a packed lunch for lunch. For the evening a delicious dinner, of course mostly based on Portuguese cuisine.
At this accommodation all walking weeks are based on a stay of 5 days on fixed dates.
In central of Portugal you are welcome at Bed and Breakfast Casa Traca 2 kilometers from Arganil, in the small village of Valbona. Casa Traca is a small Bed and Breakfast with 4 special themed rooms. Casa Traca is known for its homogeneous and informal atmosphere. It is wonderful to relax in one of the many lounge areas in the garden. You stay here based on bed and breakfast. For a fee you can get a packed lunch and you can eat in the evening.
There are a number of shorter walks that you can make on your own. Both directly at the Bed and Breakfast and at the slightly further places of interest Fraga da Pena en Piodão. At the B & B you walk through a stretch of the long distance hiking trail of 5000 kilometers, which runs from the Canary Islands to Romania. You walk here about 3 kilometers from direction Arganil, from there you go via the top of the Mont’Alto via Folgues back to Casa Traca.
It is also possible to make walks under the guidance of a guide. Both on an individual basis and as a group. These walks take place in the Caramulo mountains and in the Serra da Estrela. The walks are very diverse: from hiking on “the roof” from Portugal to river walking. Enjoy the coolness of the water and the sun on your face with bare feet.
At this property it is possible to determine the number of days and arrival day itself. The walks with the guide take place on fixed days.
South of Portugal, the Algarve
In the south of Portugal is one of the participating partners Journey Portugal excellently organized hikes: Monte Rosa.
The southwestern Algarve and the inland at Monchique and Silves are beautiful areas for hiking. On the west coast you will find rugged cliffs, wild waves and quiet beaches. The whole coast belongs to a nature reserve: “Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina”. The south coast is what sweeter, also with rock formations and there are some nice fishing villages such as Burgau, Salema and Sagres.
The interior is still quite untouched. For those who love climbing, the Monchique mountains can, with the Picota and Foia and crests (900 meters) are a challenge. A varied program, with circular walks along the south and west coast and through the inland. You can choose your own walks from the hiking tip with 35 route descriptions. Some walks overlap Via Algarviana (GR13) and the Rota Vicentina.
